Trailer Registration in Saskatchewan: Classes, Fees and Requirements
Registering a trailer in Saskatchewan depends on its class, type and value — and whether you want ongoing insurance coverage bundled in or a one-time "perpetual" plate.
Full vs. perpetual registration
- Full registration: includes insurance coverage, terms from 28 to 365 days, cost varies by trailer body style and/or value.
- Perpetual registration: no insurance included (insure separately through a broker, or leave uninsured), valid for as long as you own the trailer with no renewal required. Only available for Class TS (semi-trailers) and Class F.
Perpetual plates are non-refundable but transferable between eligible trailers in the same class for $25 (Class F) or $35 (Class TS).
Private trailers (Class T)
Covers boats, cabins/campers, tents, utility and transport trailers for personal use. Flat registration fee: $28. The insurance premium depends on trailer type and value — ranging from $36 for a basic utility trailer up to over $1,000 for a high-value cabin trailer. If you rent out your Class T trailer (U-Drive), add 30% to the insurance premium.
Farm trailers (Class F)
For semi, transport and utility trailers pulled by a farm-plated vehicle. Registration fee is a flat $32, with insurance premiums from $45 (utility) to $93 (semi). Gooseneck hitch trailers must always be registered regardless of weight; pintle/bumper-hitch trailers under 4,600 kg combined weight don't need registration at all.
Commercial trailers (Class TS)
Semi, transport and utility trailers used commercially. Registration fee is $32 with insurance premiums scaled to trailer value, from $49 (under $2,000) up to $210 (for $12,001–$15,000).
Dealer, mover or manufacturer trailers (Class LT)
For Saskatchewan-registered businesses that sell, manufacture or move trailers commercially. Registration fee is $105, with premiums from $157 (utility/tent) to $849 (cabin trailers).
How to calculate your cost

- Find the insurance premium (based on type and/or value).
- Add 30% if renting out a Class T trailer (U-Drive).
