Vehicle Registration Payment Options in Saskatchewan: Annual, AutoPay and Short-Term
SGI offers three ways to pay for your Saskatchewan vehicle registration, depending on how long you need coverage and how you'd rather budget for it.
Annual payment
Pay the full year in one lump sum when you register a new vehicle or renew. Use SGI's rate calculator to estimate the cost beforehand.
AutoPay (monthly)
A monthly payment plan that continues automatically each year. To sign up at a SGI motor licence issuer near you when registering or renewing, you'll need to:
- Provide banking or credit card information and choose a preferred monthly withdrawal date.
- Sign the AutoPay contract authorizing automatic monthly collection.
- Receive your continuous registration certificate.
Note: credit card payment is only available for registered owners with Class LV, Light F or PV plates paying for their own vehicle — third-party payments aren't supported.
Each year you'll need to complete a Registration Eligibility Declaration (RED) either online through MySGI, at an issuer, or by mailing back the declaration notice SGI sends before your AutoPay anniversary. Miss the deadline and your registration — and insurance — can be cancelled. Ending AutoPay early may carry a cancellation fee.
Short-term registration
Choose your own term from 28 to 364 days — useful for seasonal vehicles like motorhomes, motorcycles or grain trucks. Cost is the pro-rated annual fee plus an $11 administration fee and a variable term fee based on how long you choose. You can extend a short-term registration by a minimum of 28 days at any time through an issuer or MySGI.
If you fall behind on payments
Missed payments can block you from doing further business with SGI (registration, licence renewals, etc.). Make arrangements at an issuer or by calling 1-844-TLK-2SGI. Accounts still owing 30 days after a Final Notice of Overdue Account may be sent to a collection agency.
