Four ways to cancel
- Visit a SGI motor licence issuer near you
- Cancel online through MySGI
- Send someone with a signed letter of authorization (your name, the authorized person's name, what they're authorized to do, dates, and your signature)
- Fax (1-800-563-5003) or mail SGI directly at: SGI, 5104 Donnelly Cres., P.O. Box 1580, Regina, SK S4X 4C9 — include your plate number, vehicle description, signature and forwarding address
Cost of cancellation
Most standard plate classes carry a $25 cancellation fee, deducted from any refund owed. If your cancellation fee exceeds your refund, SGI will invoice you for the balance. Other plate classes have their fee calculated based on registration length and insurance premiums.
Protecting your plate
When selling a vehicle, remove your licence plate before handing it over — it stays associated with your name. Return it to SGI or any motor licence issuer, unless you're keeping it for a seasonal vehicle like a motorhome, motorcycle or boat trailer.
