Lost or Damaged Licence Plate? How to Replace It in Saskatchewan
Lost, stolen or damaged your Saskatchewan licence plate? SGI gives you two replacement options at any SGI motor licence issuer near you, whether you have a regular, specialty or personalized plate.
Option 1: Replace with a different plate number
- You get a new regular plate with the next available number immediately.
- You'll also get a new registration certificate to match.
- Fee: $15
Option 2: Reprint with your existing plate number
- You get a temporary plate to use while your replacement is ordered.
- Your original plate number is reprinted and mailed to you.
- You'll need to return to an issuer to activate it once it arrives.
- Fee: $20
Specialty and personalized plates
Collector, Memorial Cross, Rider Pride, Vintage Rider, Veteran, Year of Manufacture and personalized plates follow the same two options and fees above. Since you already submitted your original request, you don't need to fill out a new application form for a replacement.
Front plate rules
Most vehicles only need a rear plate. Exceptions: power units must display a valid front plate too, and only your matching original front plate, a valid pre-1977 plate on a pre-1977 vehicle, or souvenir/collector/vanity plates are allowed on the front.
While you wait
Your vehicle stays registered and insured during replacement, but you can still be ticketed for not clearly displaying a plate — use your temporary plate if you're driving.
