How to Renew Your Saskatchewan Driver's Licence

When and where to renew
You must visit a SGI motor licence issuer near you in person before your licence expires, since a new photo is required every five years. Online renewal through MySGI isn't available for this step because of the photo requirement.
Payment options
- Annual plan: five payments of $25 (SGI sends a reminder each year), totalling $125 over the five-year term.
- Pay in full: a single upfront payment of $100 for the full five years.

Reporting medical conditions
When you renew, you're required to report any medical condition that could affect your ability to drive safely (epilepsy, diabetes, heart disease, vision conditions, etc.). Failing to disclose a relevant condition can affect your insurance coverage if you're ever in a collision.
If your licence has already expired
The steps depend on how long it's been expired and what class or endorsement you hold:
- Class 5, expired 5+ years, Canadian jurisdiction: you can requalify with a vision test, knowledge tests and a road test — no need to redo driver education or hold a learner's licence.
- Class 5, expired 5+ years, non-Canadian or expired 1+ year from the US: you're treated as a new driver and must complete the six-stage Graduated Driver Licensing (GDL) program.
- Commercial classes (1, 2, 3, 4) or endorsements: requalification may include updated medical reports, knowledge tests and a road test. Class 1 holders lapsed 5+ years must redo Mandatory Entry Level Training (MELT) unless already completed.
- Motorcycle (M) endorsement: requalify with knowledge tests and a road test if from a Canadian jurisdiction; new riders from elsewhere must complete the full Motorcycle GDL program.
