Changing your address

You're required to notify SGI within 15 days of moving so correspondence reaches your new address. There are four ways to do it:

  • Visit a SGI motor licence issuer near you
  • Update your info through MySGI
  • Call 1-844-TLK-2SGI (1-844-855-2744) with your Customer Number ready
  • Use ExpressAddress, a free service that updates your address across multiple utilities and services at once

Changing your name or driving authority

Name changes and driving-authority changes (like adding an endorsement) must be done in person at a motor licence issuer.

  • A name change carries a $15 administration fee.
  • You'll need to show identification to verify the change, or a Driver Examination Certificate (DEC) for authority changes.

Changing sex designation

SGI offers two paths: bringing an updated birth certificate to any motor licence issuer, or submitting supporting documentation (a personal letter plus a letter from a licensed physician or psychologist) to SGI's Medical Review Unit.
