How to Get a Learner's Licence (Class 7) in Saskatchewan
Every first-time driver in Saskatchewan, regardless of age, must complete the six-stage Graduated Driver Licensing (GDL) program. The first stage is getting your Class 7 learner's licence — here's how.
Choose your path
- Study on your own: you must be at least 16 (parental approval required if under 18) and take Class 5 driver training with an SGI-certified instructor.
- High school driver education: enrol through your school division at age 15+ with parental approval. You'll need a customer number and non-driver photo ID first.
Step 1: Get your customer number and photo ID
Visit a SGI motor licence issuer near you with two pieces of acceptable ID and proof of residency, register a valid email address, and get your photo taken. Your non-driver photo ID arrives free by mail within about two weeks.
